Whetstone is a civic treasure, a unique resource that both forms and reflects the diversity and beauty of our community. Located at the heart of Clintonville, the current rec center helped to sustain our community
for more than 50 years. As we look to the future, we recognize the need to expand, upgrade and enhance the center to provide for the needs of our growing, changing community.

The value of a vibrant recreation center can hardly be overstated. Families benefit from accessible, affordable activities. Children develop socially, emotionally and physically through participation in sports and art classes. Adults enjoy social interactions with peers and benefit from exercise and leisure activities. Area home owners benefit from higher property values.

The City of Columbus has committed more than $5 million to expand and improve the center, which upon reopening in 2008, will be named the Whetstone Community Center. The new Whetstone will be the city's largest neighborhood center. This investment in Whetstone will probably be the last significant public expenditure on the site for decades.

The Whetstone Renovation Initiative was founded in 2005 to ensure that the renovation meets the needs of our community. A partnership of local civic groups and leaders, the WRI has worked to help plan the expansion and raise funds to complete the project. Now that the construction is almost finished, we are working to provide the fixtures-and-fun – everything needed to turn the beautiful new building into the vibrant Community Center it was designed to be.
